"In 1979, during a double-header White Sox game on the south side of Chicago, tens of thousands gathered to revolt against the disco movement. Chanting "Disco sucks!" as thousands of LP's burned, the campaign proved to be successful. My fascination and love with the disco movement has become a sanctuary in my record collection. From the modern-day sounds of disco house from Morgan Geist to the golden NYC era of 1970's classic disco from Yazoo, Don Ray, and Lime, I present to you DISCO TECH! ENJOY!!"

The great thing about disco music is that it has no negative content and the dance floor can be your heaven." - Steve Rubell

ADAM: “Making a mix is like cooking a dish. You think about your intent. You find the best ingredients. Treat everything with respect. Then bring to a strong simmer to coax out each nuance. In the end you serve something that communicates who you are. In that spirit, I hope you enjoy this funk soul journey. I cooked it up just for you.”

"I once read that the lowest frequencies in the songs from a humpback whale can travel distances of up to 10,000 miles in some levels of the ocean. Elephants can communicate over long distances using frequencies as low as 10 hertz. Their means of communication are quite impressive, but not nearly as impressive as the human’s various forms of communication. I can broadcast these songs I have chosen especially for you and you can listen to them anywhere in the world. That is truly impressive. Thank you technology, but most importantly, thank you, the listener. Enjoy!"

Much love,

"As with music, I am obssessed with travel, specifically road trips. I will create mixes primarily meant for the open road. DESTINATION AHEAD is one of many I've done while thinking about crossing state boundaries or perhaps flying over oceans. Whatever the journey, I need a soundtrack. I sincerely hope this mix inspires your next escape. CHEERS.

“I was living in Savannah, Georgia, and had purchased a Panasonic Box, equipped with an AM/FM radio, CD player, and tape deck. My rotation of listening (at the time) was turntable-ism and classic soul. One day, I decided to put something together using the tape deck and CD Player. To my surprise, the pause button was like butter! I could start, cue, and release at the touch of a finger. With that in mind, I decided to make a 42-minute mix of pure pandemonium, showcasing old Soul along with modern Electronic, and Hip-hop samples. I have no set list: the samples are a mile long, and to be honest, I can't remember them all! A few of the tracks I let ride: Cleveland Lounge, Esthero, Jamiroquai and the Brothers Johnson.”

"It's amazing to see how far I have come in the last 11 years. To this day, I still love doing what we do. I hope you enjoy this look into what producers had to do before the boom of modern technology."

"There are a few people I would like to give shout outs to for all the support they've given over the last 11 years: Cousin Deek, Kristi T, DJ Slippers, Ted Shred, Spud Willis, J-Bird, and of course my mother."

"The idea for this mix was conceived a few weeks ago in the early morning of a beautiful summer day. I was outside waiting on a plumber to show up, sipping on a drink and listening to "Another Late Night" by Howie B. I thought to myself that there ought to be a mix celebrating the morning. Most of the tracks were chosen during that time and the few others fell nicely into place shortly there after. It was not a planned concept that "MORNING GLORY" would be following SHRED's "Blue Room Sessions: After Midnight," but the thought that SHRED was compiling a mix inspired by the night while I was compiling one inspired by the morning could not have worked out any better. Listening to this mix will be a nice reminder of that summer morning, but music is subjective and I hope this mix moves your body, puts a smile on your face and becomes the soundtrack to a memory in the making no matter what the season or time of day."

Much love,

“I really had a great time compiling and mixing Summer Love V.3 because I had so many tracks to choose from. Most of my experience with this mix was very surreal and fell together nicely, with drawn out transitions, a variety of grooves and diverse vocal styles. I have imagined this set being played at the 11:00 PM hour at the beach with exotic cocktails and plenty of dancing. This is now the 3rd installment in this series, and I can't tell you how much you the listener has made me feel with your warm response. My soul is blessed! ENJOY!!”

ADAM: “There is an axiom among soldiers: No plan for battle ever survives first contact with the enemy. In much the same way, my concept for this mix did not survive first contact either. What started in my mind as homage to a decade’s worth of deep house and downtempo, the soundtrack to a hundred late nights in DC’s bars and lounges, quickly became something very different indeed. Something darker, animated by synthesized electricity and the rhythm of technology. The transition from planning a House mix to arriving at the Techno mix I’ve created was a surprising one for me. But here at the end of the journey, I couldn’t be happier. I hope you enjoy this mix.”

REEHEE & SHRED: “We'd like to give a warm welcome to ADAM, our newest addition to our site. Adam is a good friend, a master chef & a true music junkie. He has fine taste in cuisine & fine taste in music, & his first mix for us truly delivers those delicious sounds we all crave. IMPULSE starts out deep & commanding, & it does not let up. Lush tech sounds enhance all the layers present. It's a profound journey that leaves you anxious for the next destination. Welcome aboard, ADAM."

“The Stingray body represents my favorite design of the Chevrolet Corvette. When I was really young, I remember seeing these sleek machines prowling the streets, with some sort of 70's music blaring from the speakers. You could always hear the music, since the T-tops were always off. It's this association that brings me to this mix. These tunes represent what I would hear & play on the 8-track car stereo, if I ever owned such a Vette. It's one way of driving in style throught those boogie nights. “When it comes to dowmntempo music, it's one of those genres that will remain timeless. Whether you're listening to downtempo as a background setting at a get-together, or turning the knob all the way up, it works both ways. For those who have not experienced downtempo before, it's best to turn down the lights, have a great stereo system, a cozy couch, and an excellent bottle of wine. I am truly proud to present to you Soundscape, and I sincerely hope you enjoy this mix as much as I did producing it.”

As a person who has been playing the double bass for 19 years, I have always had an affinity for "bringin' the thunder" so to speak, and obviously have been especially fond of low frequencies. "NEON CYBER was a short-lived comic series (that later became a graphic novel) published by IMAGE comics. The series followed a renegade motorcycle gang trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic urban environment. The series was an offshoot of another (more popular) series called DARK MINDS. DARK MINDS chronicled the police force trying to enfore the law. NEON CYBER followed the youth trying to evade the police. Although its plot was fairly predictable, the art & graphics were stunning with very intricate detail. I have always wanted to score a soundtrack for publications such as this series. This mix represents the sounds I hear as I read the words & soak in the art. I sincerely hope you enjoy this mix. CHEERS.

REEHEE: “From the slick album covers which have turned into coffee table books and the heavy hitter line up of musicians that rotated throughout the years, Blue Note records is the perfect package. I can remember the times when SHRED and I walked the jazz aisles of Tower Records, talking about nothing but jazz music. This genre is a true love of mine. ENJOY!!"

SHRED: “With all the music I try to hear, I always seem to return to classic Blue Note titles. I grew up listening to these sounds long before I even knew what any of it was. Despite the fact that these tunes are decades old, I never tire from any of this music. It still sounds fresh, smooth & compelling to me today. When the volume of the night comes down, I listen to Blue Note albums to complete those blue hours. Cheers.

From the first beat by Aphasia and sandwiched in the middle by classic breaks producers Laylo and Bushwacka, this mix sets a pace that really doesn't cool down until the final ambient movement by Pako and Frederik. REEHEE: “Rap music has taken a back seat in my rotation of listening. Why? Because rap music has become a circus of cheap Casio keyboard production and just down-right horrible rappers. The phony gangsta mentality along with the block party, big booty, bling does not represent the hip-hop culture. Rap music is supposed to be pure, conscious and backed up by versatile DJ's who can supply musical samples, organic beats, and the scratch. This mix is all of that. Enjoy!!”

SHRED: “I truly miss this kind of music: funky beats, intelligent samples & wise words. What happened? There was definitely a time when hip hop ruled my speakers. The downfall for me really began when rappers started paying more attention to the appearance of the 'product' rather than the content of the cuts. I still search out choice cuts, but it is getting difficult, which strikes me as disappointing, given rap is the most popular form of music today (if you're looking at music sales, both downloads & retail). It just goes to show that the best music of any genre remains truly underground.”

Special to thanks to all the subscribers, listeners, music junkies, pod friends & fans, & everyone who has checked us out - this means YOU. More music to come. Cheers.

“During the span from 1995-1999 there used to be what they called record stores. Yeah, you got in your car and drove there. Inside these music stores they had in alphabetical order, separated by genre these round, thin, plastic discs that held information in form of music. It came with a case, artwork, and all the information about what was on the music disc. It was tangible and you actually walked out of the music store with something in your hand. I have had this idea for Back In ‘95 for quite some time. The problem was what tracks to use and how to execute it. From the golden era of Acid Jazz to the evolution of electronic music, I truly hope you enjoy this mix! Oh, and thanks for downloading it!!!”

This one is dedicated to all the old Tower Records employees in the DC Metro area! It was fun!!

"These tracks are part of a very extended set list that hit me on a late-night drive back to the house. It's all about a mood & a feeling, brought on by the open road & a mind full of memories. Those memories led to questions such as "What if?" & "What now?" A serious amount of driving will do that to you. By the time you get to HOMEBASE, I think you'll know what I mean. Best listened to in your car with the windows down & the bass up. I sincerely hope you enjoy this mix. CHEERS."

"In the last several months, I have acquired some really great house music. In fact, it was perfect timing for a summer posting. As a test, I was able to play this mix at the Sheffield Court pool for my neighbors. The response generated a chill summer vibe for everyone there. From the sexy sounds of Chuck Love to the old school love ballad of Terry Callier, I truly hope your summer brings you ‘Peace, Love and Happiness.’ Til next time, enjoy!"

"Years ago, I investigated classical music to show that I was 'musically rounded,' but never really embraced it. Today, I find myself listening to classical music everyday and enjoy every aspect of this genre."

“I haven’t listened to this kind of music in quite some time, but this mix helped me rediscover these type of massive sounds, back when the BOXED crew ruled the clubs. It’s also the kind of sounds that brought me my first shows years ago in California, when 808 STATE’s ‘In Yer Face’ was my highlight track. So here’s another return to form, with some newer tracks that have that same driving feeling to them. From the classic opener of NARCOTIK to the huge sound of WAVEHEAD (with a peak hour bass line big enough to fill any warehouse), I sincerely hope you enjoy it. Cheers.”

"I always wish I grew up in New York City during the 1970's with the thriving disco scene. Luckily, there are a handful of producers who must feel the same way. When asked, "What does The New 4/4 mean?", I did not have an answer. But looking at this line-up, I know exactly what it means: celebrated disco style with a new twist of sounds, interpretations and a traditional 4/4 beat. I couldn't have done this without a couple of old classics: KOOL & The GANG and SKYY are staples in the disco world and holds this mix together. It's time we all get back to some summer fun. I hope this does it. ENJOY!"

“It's been awhile since I've been back to the NETHERLANDS. The last time I was there, some deep, downtempo beats served as the continuous soundtrack in my headphones. There's something very transcendent about walking the stone sidewalks in AMSTERDAM while listening to the grooves of SPACE HOPPER or the vocal samples used by NEOTROPIC. Hope you enjoy these afterhour sounds. Cheers.” - DANK U WEL.

"Part two is always a scary attempt in any kind of art form. In the 80’s, movie sequels were all the rage. In music, sequels are becoming quite the follow-up in an attempt to keep a producer series alive. TO DA FLOOR II was done all at one time, but I had two CD’s worth of music. I would like to get back to my roots of mixing and bring you some hard 4/4 beats for all you cats out there. Again I warn you, make sure your shoes are comfy when you hit that dance floor. I’ll be up in the booth if you need me! ENJOY!"

“These hot summer days are sometimes a lazy time for me. A lazy Sunday afternoon usually involves some good food, refreshing spirits, & of course, music. The warmth of the sun reminds me of living in my cramped studio apartment in Santa Barbara, CA. I would routinely hear the radio of my elderly neighbor just blasting classic sounds from Cuba, Mexico, Brasíl & beyond. She would occasionally share stories with me of how she loved to dance in clubs literally decades ago, in countries I have never seen. I tried to incorporate some of the sounds of those far away places into this mix, right down to the timeless ANTONIO CARLOS JOBIM cover of "Quiet Nights (Corcovado)." I hope you enjoy these tunes as you sip a chilled beverage of your choice in this blazing heat. CHEERS.

"OK, one band that has affected my life the most, in a musical sense, is JAMIROQUAI. I’ve been a super fan of Jay Kay since my first record store job at Kemp Mill Music in Fairfax, VA, back in ’96 when I first heard "When You Gonna Learn," their 12" release on the Acid Jazz label. Ever since then, I’ve never stopped digging on the Space Cowboy’s innovative grooves. So after 6 albums, 10 years of collecting just about anything that Jamiroquai releases, and countless 12" remixes later, I thought it was time to do a mix worthy of Jamiroquai’s timeless sound and amazing career. May your soul be cleansed in this good vibe zone."
