"It's summer again here in D.C. and this was perfect timing to post the second installment of Summer Love V.2. Nothing feels better this time of year than a sexy, soulful house mix. I have been stockpiling love theme tracks for the last year to carry on the tradition. May your summer bring you peace, love and happiness, and I truly hope this mix will touch your soul. It did mine!!"

"While listening to these tunes, I got a little nostalgic for some reason. The music just reminded me of good times past (& present). I thought of friends, positive people & positive influences, hence the collage cover. Images & memories of long nights out with a gang of friends made up the mental movie in my head. This extended mix is the peak-hour soundtrack. I sincerely hope you enjoy it. Cheers."

"ROAD TRIPPIN' is a high octane mix for the car, dance floor or anywhere sleep is not an option. Try listening to KAP10KURT's "Dangerseeker" quietly - you can't, it's still loud on level 1. The first two tracks will forever be on my top 20 favorite songs list. I actually hit a block after recording them because they are so energetic. I just didn't know which songs would be suitable enough to maintain the intensity those two tracks created. I spent the next several weeks listening to so much of my music and after many rough drafts and refinements I am proud to present this mix to you."

"When compiling this mix, I created and deleted four playlists until that one all-inspiring, forgotten track by Tom Pooks crept up and got me going. With thousands of tracks to choose from and only sixty minutes to work with, I always do my work in the late night hours. Why? No cell phone ringing or outside noise distractions, just music and decks! This mix has a Main Room feel that climaxes right in the middle and ends with a classic love tune. “I’m taking a break from the ‘Main Room’ sounds & offering up something for the smaller, more-intimate lounge spaces. Good sounds don’t always have to be ‘big.’ These selections represent a slice of what I would most likely play for my circle of friends, just chillin’. Nothing serious here – just one for the smaller set. I think the MARKUS NIKOLAI track sums it all up best. And yes, all of it is vinyl. I sincerely hope you groove to this mix. CHEERS.

"Breaks are a drummer's dream, and being one I can't get enough of this genre. From the first beat by Aphasia and sandwiched in the middle by classic breaks producers Laylo and Bushwacka, this mix sets a pace that really doesn't cool down until the final ambient movement by Pako and Frederik. Hard slamming drum beats cushioned in with fuzzy bass lines and amazing synth work. I really hope you enjoy this mix as much as I did creating it!!"

"I was introduced to Afrobeat in the fall of shortly after the death of Fela Kuti, who pioneered this amazing sound in the late 1960s. His live performances were great spectacles. With a large ensemble of musicians and colorfully dressed dancers, his songs would go on for hours, never losing the heavy, pulsing rhythm. In jazz, there were songs that would last for a long time but never with such a rhythm. The music would induce a trance-like state and there were many religious rituals that were performed at his shows. His sound influenced many cultures and musicians alike, and since Fela there have been many bands over the years keeping Afrobeat alive and strong. James Brown and Miles Davis have said that Afrobeat influenced their sound in their music, and there is a sample of "Darkest Light" by the Lafayette Afro Rock Band in Public Enemy’s song "Show 'Em Watcha Got." I love this music and it is my pleasure to present this mix to you. Now get up and dance!"

REEHEE: “Rap music has taken a back seat in my rotation of listening. Why? Because rap music has become a circus of cheap Casio keyboard production and just down-right horrible rappers. The phony gangsta mentality along with the block party, big booty, bling does not represent the hip-hop culture. Rap music is supposed to be pure, conscious and backed up by versatile DJ's who can supply musical samples, organic beats, and the scratch. This mix is all of that. Enjoy!!”

SHRED: “I truly miss this kind of music: funky beats, intelligent samples & wise words. What happened? There was definitely a time when hip hop ruled my speakers. The downfall for me really began when rappers started paying more attention to the appearance of the 'product' rather than the content of the cuts. I still search out choice cuts, but it is getting difficult, which strikes me as disappointing, given rap is the most popular form of music today (if you're looking at music sales, both downloads & retail). It just goes to show that the best music of any genre remains truly underground.”

Special to thanks to all the subscribers, listeners, music junkies, pod friends & fans, & everyone who has checked us out - this means YOU. More music to come. Cheers.

“During the span from 1995-1999 there used to be what they called record stores. Yeah, you got in your car and drove there. Inside these music stores they had in alphabetical order, separated by genre these round, thin, plastic discs that held information in form of music. It came with a case, artwork, and all the information about what was on the music disc. It was tangible and you actually walked out of the music store with something in your hand. I have had this idea for Back In ‘95 for quite some time. The problem was what tracks to use and how to execute it. From the golden era of Acid Jazz to the evolution of electronic music, I truly hope you enjoy this mix! Oh, and thanks for downloading it!!!”

"I always wish I grew up in New York City during the 1970's with the thriving disco scene. Luckily, there are a handful of producers who must feel the same way. When asked, "What does The New 4/4 mean?", I did not have an answer. But looking at this line-up, I know exactly what it means: celebrated disco style with a new twist of sounds, interpretations and a traditional 4/4 beat. I couldn't have done this without a couple of old classics: KOOL & The GANG and SKYY are staples in the disco world and holds this mix together. It's time we all get back to some summer fun. “I haven’t listened to this kind of music in quite some time, but this mix helped me rediscover these type of massive sounds, back when the BOXED crew ruled the clubs. It’s also the kind of sounds that brought me my first shows years ago in California, when 808 STATE’s ‘In Yer Face’ was my highlight track. "Arlington, VA: a suburb on the Virginia side of DC, right across from the Potomac River, filled with stores, bars, restaurants, condos and clubs. I've had the pleasure of working in Arlington for the past six years, and I've decided to move there in April. The rest of northern Virginia is a great place to get married, own an overpriced house and raise a family. To me, Arlington has been a saving grace and a reassurance that there is a place in the DC Metro area that young adults can go and listen to live music, mingle with each other and enjoy the night life. I want to dedicate this one to all the great people I have met throughout the years, from Ballston to Rosslyn. There is nothing sweeter than Arlington Nights!"

“The similarities in the cover between this new mix & Sleazy Listening are wholly intentional: I wanted to display a few records that have really made a positive impact on me, changing & reshaping the way I listen to music. In the case of this new mix, the Studio !K7 label has really made a lasting impression. Their DJ KiCKS series is one of the best ever from any label. Unlike most other mix comps that showcase the label’s own catalog, !K7 gave carte blanche to its artists in compiling these mixes, and the results have been consistently stellar. Artists on this label are so enamored with this free form opportunity that they have even created tracks specifically for these mixes (Rockers Hi-Fi, Thievery Corporation). Ultimately, it was all about not following any form: just creating a mix purely for the enjoyment of it. Track selection could be unexpected, challenging, even somewhat random - it didn’t really matter. And that’s what I love & respect about it. So here’s my take on this, utilizing those influences that have been with me for years. Loose funk, world percussion, true deep house – it’s all here. I sincerely hope you enjoy it. CHEERS.

"Part two is always a scary attempt in any kind of art form. In the 80’s, movie sequels were all the rage. In music, sequels are becoming quite the follow-up in an attempt to keep a producer series alive. TO DA FLOOR II was done all at one time, but I had two CD’s worth of music. I would like to get back to my roots of mixing and bring you some hard 4/4 beats for all you cats out there. Again I warn you, make sure your shoes are comfy when you hit that dance floor. “The BASEMENT TAPES are exactly what you think they would be: simple sessions done just for kicks. I like doing these mixes on the fly. It gives me an opportunity to use tracks I wouldn’t normally select while at the same time check out some new releases. I’m especially biased & will definitely dig into some West coast house sounds. This one’s strictly for fun. I sincerely hope you enjoy it. Cheers.”

"Many times in this genre of electronic music, great artists are outshined by what we know as club hits or just a buzz on the street of what was hot at the local club or disco-tech. The great artists who have paved the way and broke new ground really do not get what they deserve. It is my duty as a producer to look beyond, research and LISTEN! When Suite Souls was forming, I decided to showcase some of my heroes and influences over the years. From Environ to Kompakt back to Bedrock and Ghostly International, these labels have consistently put out great compilations and signed talented artists. With that said, ladies and gentleman, ENJOY!"

“It's been awhile since I've been back to the NETHERLANDS. The last time I was there, some deep, downtempo beats served as the continuous soundtrack in my headphones. There's something very transcendent about walking the stone sidewalks in AMSTERDAM while listening to the grooves of SPACE HOPPER or the vocal samples used by NEOTROPIC. Hope you enjoy these afterhour sounds. Cheers.” - DANK U WEL.
